After more than a year of mobilization, the HMR coalition welcomes with relief the government’s official announcement ending the second wave of cuts to the project and launching the development work for the future central pavilion.
Expectations were high for the Premier, who had made Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont a priority during the leadership race. Moreover, the fact that she made this announcement just two days after forming her cabinet speaks to the importance of this file for the former CEO of the East Montreal Chamber of Commerce.
“We see a real willingness on the part of the Premier to move this project into high gear, and that can only be welcomed. With today’s announcement and the steps that will be taken in the coming weeks, we’re ensuring that both the current and future government can move the project into its implementation phase quickly,” said Dr. Marc Brosseau, intensivist pulmonologist and president of the CMDPSF of the CIUSSS de l’Est-de-l’Île-de-Montréal.
“We are pleased to have been able to make the government see reason. It is finally recognizing the urgency of acting for Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont by taking concrete action. Healthcare professionals can finally have hope of working in an adequate environment. In the meantime, we will of course remain mobilized to ensure this happens,” noted Denis Cloutier, president of the Syndicat des professionnels en soins de l’Est-de-l’Île-de-Montréal (FIQ SPS ESTIM).
“Moreover, the 2036 timeline can be maintained thanks to the fact that the government is taking action now,” added Éric Clermont, president of the Syndicat des travailleuses et travailleurs du CIUSSS de l’Est de Montréal – CSN.
“This is an announcement users have been waiting for a long time, and today they finally have hope that they can believe in it,” added Patrick Cothenet, president of the HMR users’ committee.
The president and CEO of the East Montreal Chamber of Commerce, Jean-Denis Charest, concluded by saying, “This announcement is consistent with her past positions, and I welcome the fact that this commitment is being upheld.”
